The Assurance of His Coming

The Assurance of His Coming

Matthew 24:30

“And then at last, the sign that the Son of Man is coming will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning among all the peoples of the earth. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” (NLT)

Can we even begin to imagine seeing this sign, what will it be? There have been so many suppositions as to what the sign will be, there has been the idea that the cross will appear from the heavens, a flash of light shall blind us with its brightness, and a visible manifestation has been suggested.

Yet the true answer I believe is given to us in Daniel 7:13 “As my vision continued that night, I saw someone like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient One and was led into his presence.” (NLT) That sign of the
Son of Man is Jesus’ presence. The sign is a lot more that an appearance we could see in the heavens.

“And there will be deep mourning among all the peoples of the earth.” In Revelation 1:7 “…And everyone will see him—even those who pierced him…(NLT) St. John clearly refers to Zechariah’s 12:10 prediction “…They will look on me whom they have pierced and mourn for him as for an only son…”(NLT) including all who through the ages have crucified the Son of God “…by rejecting the Son of God, they themselves are nailing him to the cross once again and holding him up to public shame.” Hebrews 6:6 (NLT).

At the end times, the SIGN of His coming will be His personal approach with the glory of his Father and the holy angels,

1 Thessalonians 4:16;

“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves.” (NLT)

The only archangel mentioned in the New Testament Michael whose shout shall announce the Lord himself descending from heaven for He ascended into heaven after resurrecting passing through the heavens into the third heaven that retains Him until the time when He will come again appearing in His glory.
Luke 21:27;

“Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on a cloud with power and great glory.” (NLT)

Jesus very clearly lets us know that the Son of man will appear when He comes on a cloud with all His power and glory.

Matthew 26:64;

“You have said it. And in the future you will see the Son of Man seated in the place of power at God’s right hand[a] and coming on the clouds of heaven.” (NLT)

Jesus referred to himself when letting them know of His second coming when telling them when smiling all along they disdainfully looked at Him and he said, “I am;” reaffirming that the day is coming when He will appear otherwise.

“And they shall see the Son of man in the clouds of heaven” Acts 1:9 “…and He disappeared into a cloud.” Yes He ascended in a cloud, and He lets us know that He will be seen “coming on a cloud with power and great glory.” (NLT)

Power and great glory - "Glory" - the visible display of His honor and majesty as manifested by the way of His coming in Matthew 26:64 and by the presence of the angels in Matthew 25:31 “But when the Son of Man[a] comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit upon his glorious throne.” (NLT)

Christ will come to His judgment-seat in real glory: the Sun righteously shining in its entire luster as the King of kings shows the riches of His glorious kingdom.
