Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”
Nicodemus knew that God had sent Jesus to teach them, he even mentioned that the miraculous signs would be proof enough that God was with Him in John 3:2, verse 3 the first words that Jesus spoke to Nicodemus who was a devout Pharisee as He leading to let him know that the Kingdom would come to the entire world not just the Jews (see John 3:16). Jesus was telling Nicodemus that he would not be part of the Kingdom unless he was personally born again which was such a revolutionary concept for the time.
The Kingdom of God is personal, not national, or ethnic, and its entrance requirements are repentance and spiritual rebirth. Jesus later taught that God’s Kingdom has already begun in the hearts of believers (see Luke 17:21). The Kingdom will be fully realized when Jesus returns again to judge the world and abolish evil forever per Revelation 21-22.
