Romans 2:24 (NLT)
“The Gentiles blaspheme the name of God because of you.”
Since we claim to be one of God’s own, should not our lives reflect what He is like? When we disobey God we dishonor His name. New believers, and non-believers look to us for an example yet we put down, criticize our brothers and sisters and sometimes we even seek revenge in order to build ourselves up. This behavior sometimes lead the new or non-believer to blaspheme or profane God’s name because of our own doing. The enemy has his eyes on us all the time.
Paul’s explanation to the Romans in today’s verse was because of the hypocritical behavior of the Jews that led to some disturbing results just like it happens today. Look all the way back to Isaiah 52:5 and Ezekiel 36:20-21 “Then I was concerned for my holy name, which had been dishonored by my people throughout the world.” And this all because of Israel’s disobedience of God’s Law. Everyone knows that Abraham’s (Israel) are chosen people that are us today! The world looks to us to act accordingly and just like when the Jews violated the Law and the Gentiles blasphemed God’s name the same happens today when the enemy is in high alert to all of our actions.
Our Father is concerned about not only our salvation but that of the entire world. When we push away other because of our actions, we are pushing them towards other gods and we know that God will not share His glory with false gods, He alone is the one true God. We share a responsibility to represent Him to the rest of the world. We share that same responsibility as the Israelites, the Apostles and those before us had to represent God. How do you represent God to the World today?
