“So I tell you, don’t worry about everyday life…” Matthew 6:25a (NLT)
As we read Matthew 6:25 to 34 Jesus teaches us about worrying, because of the ill effects of worrying Jesus tells us not to worry about those needs that God promises to supply. Worry leads to damaging our health disrupt our productivity, negatively affect the way we treat others and reduces our ability to trust in God. How many ill effects are you experiencing? There is a difference between worry and concern, worry immobilizes, and concern moves you to action.
If we make the Kingdom of God our primary concern we put God in first place in our lives and fill our thoughts with his desires taking his character for our pattern to serve and obey him in everything.
So what is really important to us? People, objects, goals and other desires all compete for priority and any of these can bump God out of first place if we do not give him first place in every area of our lives.
Sometimes we cannot tell the difference between planning and worrying, time spent planning is time well spent, worrying is wasted time. Careful planning is thinking ahead and trusting in God’s guidance. When done properly planning can alleviate worrying. By contrast worriers are consumed by fear and find it difficult to trust God by letting the plans interfere with the relationship with God.
Don’t let your worries about the future affect your relationship with God today.
In verses 6:25-34 Jesus provides seven reasons why we should not worry;
1. 6:25 The same God who created our lives can be trusted with the details of our lives
2. 6:26 Worrying about the future hampers our efforts today
3. 6:27 Worrying is more harmful than helpful
4. 6:28-30 God does not ignore those who depend on him
5. 6:31-32 Worrying shows a lack of faith in and understanding of God
6. Worrying keeps us from the real challenges God has placed upon us
7. Living one day at a time keeps us from being consumed with worry.
Faithfully roll your worries over to God for He is faithful, always was and always will.
